Project Details: The project will envisage extension of runway from 05/23 of 1836 m x 60 to 2407 m x 300 dimension, construction of isolation bay, link taxiway and other allied works. The estimated cost of the project is Rs. 598.5 million. Tenders had been recently invited for the extension work.The project is awaiting environmental clearance.

According to MoEF sources, the total area of the existing airport is 253.959 acres. Indian Army and IAF have recently accorded working permission to AAI for 5.33 acres and 0.71 acres of their respective land. In addition, 32.5 acres land has been handed over to Airports Authority of India for proposed extension. The existing terminal building covers 10536 sqm plinth area. The scope of the extension work includes civil works, electrical works, CNS works.

Civil works include: Extension of runway 05/23 towards runway 05 beginning, provision of runway shoulders, turn pad, grading of runway strip, construction of boundary wall, storm water drain for extended portion of runway beyond the runway strip of 300m, provision of perimeter road, rerouting and construction of 5m wide link road to Nepalipatti, drainage system, box culverts etc.
