Project: Setting up a drinking water project

Location: Dist. Alappuzha, Kerala.

Project Details: 15 civil contractors are involved in the project. Vishwanathan Constructions, Kochi is a major contractor. A new 62 MLD water treatment plant is also being constructed. According to media reports, the project, estimated to cost Rs. 1.88 billion, is being implemented with central assistance under the Urban Infrastructure Development Scheme for Small and Medium towns. Pipe-laying works at Edathua, near railway track and near Alappuzha civil station have not been completed. As per the project, water from Kadapra in Pathanamthitta, coming via a treatment plant at Karumadi near Ambalappuzha, will be supplied to the people of Alappuzha municipality and eight surrounding panchayats of Purackad, Alappuzha South, Alappuzha North, Punnapra South, Punnapra North, Aryad, Mararikulam South and Mannancherry.

Current Status: Civil work is in progress. 70 to 80% works of the project has been completed. The project is scheduled for completion in December 2015.
