The Southern India Mills Association is planning a coal-based group captive power plant in Tamil Nadu.

Current Status: As of October 2013, the work on the project is expected to commence in November 2013. Other details are yet to be finalized. According to media reports, the estimated cost of the project is Rs. 12.5 billion, which will be funded by the company, central government and state government. Scheme for Integrated Textile Parks by the central government envisages captive power plant for textile parks in the country and the industry associations would be the main promoters. Under the scheme, the combined stake of the central and state governments should not exceed 49%. The company members could purchase power from the group captive power plant at a lower rate.
